Myself Out There - Part 2
Well, the finals for the Bare
Chest Calendar are coming up soon! All my inner voices have been
quite active lately. They seem to want me to go back to that little
scared boy and tell myself that I can't do this. That there's no way I
could ever be in the calendar. These voices have used lots of tricks to
try to get me to quit.
Yet, I'm also more convinced than ever of the need to do this. I work
with men on body image issues almost every day. I have to walk my own
walk. I don't care who you are or what you look like - we all have these
voices.
I was sitting in the finals meeting last Saturday morning. Here we
were getting all the info on what the final will be like. My voices were
hard at work comparing me to everyone else there. The amazing thing is
that I finally learned the trick to shutting these voices. Just know
they are there - acknowledge them. Give them a name.
Once I acknowledged the voices they became very quiet. I realized
that these are nothing but voices from my past. They had huge power over
a much younger boy but they have no power for me now.
I'm an Enneagram 3. What I think other people think of me is a very
powerful thing for me. This isn't what they really think, rather, what I
think they think. Of course, my inner voices are more than happy to tell
me what they think. Of course, this is really silly. Why should I care
what I think others think. The reality is that most people really don't
care! It took me a long time to learn this lesson.

DNA Lounge (375 11th St.) beginning at 5:00.

providing emergency financial assistance for persons living with AIDS
and the Positive Resource
Center – helping those living with HIV to obtain employment and the
benefits they are entitled to.

prizes are transferrable and you don’t need to be present to win.
Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Event
tickets are $5 each and include one raffle ticket.
